I always wonder what makes a hard boiled detective in particular hard boiled. Yes. It may be argued that it is the thin line between legal, illegal and criminal action closely tied to violence and a certain attitude towards women. But: Is that hard boiled? Does hard boiled mean to be familiar with all these traits? Or is it a romantic view on the detective as character with a subversive machismo underneath – at the end of the day Philipp Marlowe is a nice guy?

Consequently, hard boiled means good natured. Personally, I feel like a little coffee with a such a detective would be nice. Maybe some Gimlets to pour down the espresso. And, by the way, I like the light glowing through those windows – black and white like hard boiled with colour change.
